The drones we wrote about in an article for the latest issue of the Polish Power Grid’s quarterly magazine are unmanned, but the magazine would never come to life without the Aude team and competent writers, who are able to cover topics such as on-load tap changers diagnostics.

You’re probably wondering what it is? We are when we plan content for the next issue of “Power Engineering – Today and Tomorrow.” The project that we do for the Polish Power Grid company (PSE) requires much effort from the managing editors, mostly due to specialized topics we’re not familiar with. That’s why we work on content created by experts – the contributors are engineers from PSE and other firms cooperating with the company, as well as cooperating academics. Only they are able to discuss subjects such as power grid engineering, power infrastructure or EU power market regulations.

Editing such content is a tall order, you need to ponder on every word and almost each change must be consulted – even though we’re good at editing, we’re no experts in such narrow specializations. We must be very conscientious and precise when working on a text about the use of unmanned aerial vehicles in power engineering or about drones helping to examine underwater power cables. There can’t be any rush, as any hasty change could also change the meaning. We attach much importance to text approval and we’re in contact with the authors.

Working on such a magazine is also a challenge to the graphic designer as the content includes lots of mathematical and physics formulas, often ‘multi-level’ ones – the programs we use let us choose the fonts freely and show aesthetically sequences of signs, which are not the easiest element of layout designing. Plus almost all articles contain infographics.

The layout has a simple form, there’s no room here for a designing spree, each page must be disciplined and clear – to help the readers instead of distracting them. The publication is available in science libraries so it has to meet the standards for working papers. It has a fixed division into chapters and subchapters, contains a bibliography and a summary in English.

It is a rich source of knowledge in the area which to us is an unknown land, but for PSE employees it is everyday environment.
